FAQs

What is the Disclosure Calculator?

The Disclosure Calculator is a free and simple tool that helps you figure out when your conviction becomes ‘spent’ under England and Wales legislation. This means you’ll know when you no longer have to disclose it to employers, education institutions, financial services businesses or other organisations.

How does it work?

Just enter details about your conviction, including the sentencing date and type of sentence received. The tool then calculates when it will be considered spent under England and Wales' disclosure rules.

Who is this tool for?

This tool is designed for anyone with a past conviction who wants to understand their disclosure obligations. It can also be useful for advisors, support workers, and employers looking for guidance on criminal record disclosure.

What information do I need?

To get an accurate result, you’ll need:

  • Your date of birth

  • The date of sentencing/conviction

  • Details of the sentence (e.g., custody, fine, court orders)

  • Where the conviction was issued and where it'll be disclosed

Can I enter multiple convictions or cautions?

Yes! You can add multiple convictions and cautions, even if they happened on different dates. This ensures you get a full picture of when each becomes spent.

What if I received more than one sentence for the same conviction?

No problem. If you received multiple sentences (for example, a prison sentence, a fine, and a court order), you can enter them all under the same conviction.

Does the calculator work for all parts of the UK?

Right now, the tool only covers disclosure rules for England and Wales. If you need information for Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may need to check their specific legislative rules.

Will my information be stored or shared?

We take your privacy seriously. The Disclosure Calculator is designed to provide assistance without storing sensitive personal information. For information about how we use the information you provide elsewhere on this site, see our Privacy Policy.
